The Gravedancers

The Gravedancers is one of Horrorfest "8 movies to die for" collection.
I'm such an avid horror movie fan. I can't wait to get my hands on all eight since last year the Horrorfest began.
The story is simple enough. A group of friends are haunted by a trio of hostile ghosts after they engage in a drunken bout of grave dancing during a wake for an old spell.
The plot is a little weak. CGI is terrible.
Everyone knows Dominic Purcell as the cute guy from Fox's Prison Break television show. In the movie, he seems to have gained some weight while he took a break from prison.
The first half is decent and there are some good camera movements, but the second half seems to me like they were affected by budget and lack of creativity. The ending is tacky.
The three ghosts have some potential to be REALLY scary, but they fail to develop the characters and the terrible CGI makes it even worse.
The gist of the spell, living for today, should be thoroughly connected to the plot.
The female roles are miscast. They should swap the two female roles so that the blond is the lonely home-wrecker, and the brunette is the devoted wife.
The Gravedancers made me jump couple of times, and there were some unintentional hilarious moments that are perfect for someone with a good sense of humor.
Watch it with lights off, everyone!

Solaris (2002) by Steven Soderbergh is a seriously underrated movie.

It's a LOVE STORY written in Sci-Fi format.

Anyone expecting a men-killing-aliens, spacecraft-chasing movie and giving a bad rating should dig a hole and bury himself/herself in.

It is about regrets, choices and the power of will.

I think George Clooney is too pretty for the role, but this is definitely the best performance I've seen out of the pretty actor/director.

Other related outstanding Sci-Fi movies: Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Event Horizon.

I've never seen the original Andrei Tarkovski's 1972 version.

It's on my must-see list now.

過癮
是四個女生一起看恐怖片的感覺
自己已經夠怕了, 還有人在我旁邊尖叫
電影本身只有60分
但整個過程已經值回票價!

Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson did a good job of playing a married couple who have a rocky relationship. The little disagreement in the car in the first 10 minutes got me going. They're like two people in real life who argue over the smallest things.

I like the little details that pay tribute to Psycho. I think Kate and Luke are a stupid couple in their thirties who have never watched or heard a classic Hitchcock movie called Psycho. Duh?! If they have, we don't get to see the movie, because nobody would be dumb enough to check in a motel like that.

There are plenty of good jump-out-of-the-seat moments despite the fact that the killers are just too busy making the snuff films to KILL, and the romance that the couple develop is so laughable that i hope they die. But overall, the good B-movie thrills kept my adrenaline pumping for 80 minutes.

The good thing is that the director is smart enough to avoid turning it into a cheap slasher movie with bad taste. Vacancy has apparant plot holes and all the cliche that we see in every horror movie, but he keeps the tension going without the help of blood and gore. It's another kind of horror movie that's different from teen slasher that Hollywood usually cashes in with, like Hostel, House of Wax and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. (Don't get me wrong. I love all of them.)

I laughed when I heard "It gets the honeymooners in the mood."
When they check in, they hear the sound of a woman's scream coming from the room behind the front desk. The facial expressions of the three characters are incredible. I laughed so hard when the woman's scream is back on after the guy goes back in the room.

The ending is bad. It's like okay, times up, let's end it here. It's true that a sunshine and rainbows ending is definitely necessary if they want to make a starry low-budget cash cow.
(Spoilers Alert) It's like if u get stabbed, all u have to do is to take a nap on the porch. When u wake up, you'll be fine.
I liked the movie, but u just can't end a movie like that.

I'm still wondering if I should see The Hills Have Eyes.
Cheesy?

貢寮海洋音樂祭 7/7/2007

We went there by train when I still had a terrible hangover.
At a certain point i thought i was going to faint cuz of the air and low blood sugar.
I have to badmouth it, for two reasons:
I saw the commercial ONE WEEK before it began.
I had difficulty finding the official website with performing artists with all the major search engines.

We had no luck with the wave cuz we arrived late.
I don't mind getting stung by little jellyfish.
Still, it was great fun just lying on the beach and listening to the music, we didn't even know who were performing tho.
I enjoyed Adia's performace. He's a good producer.
Very stress-relieving...by shouting "fxxk ur teacher"!

Eddie was digging into the sand, creating makeshift lounges for us, like all the other concert-goers did.
It looked like a massive habitat for sea turtles!

It was reported there were 180,000 ppl at the activity.
I wonder how many people really care about indie music?!

We planned for an early escape to beat the traffic back to Taipei.
It took us 30 min to cross that bridge, but text messaging frds kept me entertaining.

Last week, some flu-bug had me sweating, shivering, pale and burning up at the same time.
Now flu is still as bad.

No energy to do anything except for watching dvds.

30 Days of Night vs. I Am Legend

30 Days of Night

30 days of Night has the feel of an old school John Carpenter film "The Thing". It has nothing to do with 28 Days/Weeks Later except Muse was featured in both movies. In theater 19 October 2007.


I Am Legend

Is I Am Legend going to be just another popcorn action/thriller starring Will Smith? I know the novel was scary, but considering how the changes he made to the I Robot script ruined that movie, I don't have much hope for I Am Legend either. He looks the same in every movie. Pause at 1' 13'' and look how much gasoline costs 5 years from now.

誰知道叫這個中文片名的不只一個
春暉送來的窗外有情天是1988年的A Handful of Dust
為什麼我要在影展期間，看當年皮膚光滑如少女的Judy Dench演戲呢？
反正假都請了
累得肝都快爆了
把帽子壓低一點睡個覺吧
